Sobchack, Vivian Carol
   Author of The Limits of Infinity: The American Science Fiction Film, published by A. S. Barnes in 1980,Vivian Sobchack drew several examples from DR. STRANGELOVE, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE in her survey of the genre, while attempting to define the look, the sounds, and the iconography of SCIENCE FICTION films. She was born in Brooklyn and educated at Barnard College as an English major and at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where she specialized in film studies. An officer of the Society for Cinema Studies and associate editor of The Journal of Popular Film & Television, she had taught at UCLA, the University of Vermont, and the University of Utah at the time she wrote this book.
